THE CHALLENGE
Colorado State University wanted their adult learners to use the skills they learned in their Eating Smart • Being Active curriculum outside the classroom.
Colorado State University's (CSU) Department of Food Science and Human Nutrition Department provides Eating Smart • Being Active(ESBA) as an evidence-based, healthy eating and active living curriculum to universities worldwide
The curriculum is designed to be taught by paraprofessionals to limited resource adult learners in one-on-one or small group settings. Lesson content includes physical activity, nutrition, healthy lifestyle choices, food preparation (cooking skill development), food safety, and food resource management.
Colorado State wanted to take the content out of the classroom and expand it to be part of the participants' daily lives but needed help determining the best way to do so.
THE SOLUTION
CSU partnered with Squarei Technologies to create a web application and highly functional, user-friendly native mobile apps for iOS and Android.
CSU's Department of Food Science and Human Nutrition worked with the Squarei team to develop and manage a custom native mobile application and corresponding administrative web application to complement the curriculum. The mobile application was built using the latest technology and was designed with the flexibility to add new features and enhancements quickly. A clean interface and user experience were two of the must-haves for the app.
