THE CHALLENGE

Colorado State University leads the nation with their RAPID interlibrary loan solution, but their outdated technology couldn't keep up with rising demand.

Colorado State University's Rapid Access Process and Information Delivery (RAPID) system (now a part of E) is a unique resource sharing system designed by the interlibrary loan staff. RAPID was developed in 1997 as a means to provide fast, cost-effective article requesting and delivery following a devastating flood that damaged the library.

Due to great demand for membership in the nationwide co-op system, CSU library staff realized the need to re-architect the system from the ground up, but didn't have the time or skill set to do so.

THE SOLUTION

CSU sought out Squarei Technologies to bring their legacy system into the future.

Squarei was tasked with rebuilding the system using standards-based object-oriented development techniques atop the Microsoft .NET and SQL Server platform. Together with the team of developers at CSU, they completely re-wrote the highly complex and transactional application over the course of a year. The new RAPID system was delivered on time and within budget.

Over 500 member libraries from all around the world are using RAPID.
